AMERICAN QUEEN VOYAGES™ PARTNERS WITH THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE GREAT LAKES TO INTRODUCE LAKELORIAN FOR THE 2023 SEASON

(Kate Fineske, senior director of institutional advancement, National Museum of the Great Lakes)

Fort Lauderdale, FLSept. 22, 2022 American Queen Voyages, part of the Hornblower® Group, is partnering with the National Museum of the Great Lakes to create a new Lakelorian program for the Lakes & Oceans fleet. Kicking off the 2023 Great Lakes season in Toronto in May, Ocean Voyager and Ocean Navigator will each include a permanent lecturer on each sailing, holding the title of Lakelorian, similar to the Riverlorian onboard each American Queen Voyages paddlewheeler. The Lakelorian will lead lectures, host discussions and answer questions throughout the journey across these mighty bodies of freshwater. With equal parts knowledge and passion for the Great Lakes, Lakelorians will be selected and provide exclusive programming in collaboration with the renowned National Museum of the Great Lakes in Toledo, OH.

“Our partnership with American Queen Voyages began taking shape in 2020 with their extraordinary support of Great Lakes history through an 11-day Great Lakes cruise donation which we used as the grand prize for our Luck of the Lakes Raffle,” shares Kate Fineske, senior director of institutional advancement, National Museum of the Great Lakes. “Since then, we have come to recognize American Queen Voyages Lakes & Oceans ships as floating ambassadors of the Great Lakes, bringing thousands of visitors from around the world to deeply discover our region’s rich history. We look forward to Ocean Voyager and Ocean Navigator becoming an extension of the National Museum of the Great Lakes through this innovative Lakelorian program, and welcoming guests to discover our museum and all we have to offer.”

Just as the rivers of America are a great source of history and culture, the Great Lakes hold a treasure trove of information worthy of a dedicated lecturer. The Lakelorian will share and enlighten guests on the uniqueness of each port in the Great Lakes and be a welcomed storyteller of the region, versed in its history and the support of The National Museum of the Great Lakes for expertise. The Lakelorian will hold daily Lake Chats in the Tavern or Compass Lounge to provide information about the town or city in which American Queen Voyages is visiting for the day. In addition to the daily lectures, each sailing will feature an exclusive lecture highlighting a current exhibit at The National Museum of the Great Lakes.

“The 2022 Lakes & Oceans season has been an incredible success showcasing what makes exploring the Great Lakes onboard Ocean Voyager and Ocean Navigator such an extraordinary experience ,” said Bill Annand, vice president of Vessel Operations Lakes & Oceans for American Queen Voyages and a proud lifelong Michigander himself. “From exclusively docking in downtown Chicago at Navy Pier to maiden arrivals in smaller ports like Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay, guests aboard these vessels witness what makes the Great Lakes so special. The National Museum of the Great Lakes has been an invaluable resource. We are excited to support the museum in Toledo on Sept. 24 at their H2Oh! Gala providing this year’s winner of another Great Lakes Cruise and to continue to grow our partnership through our Lakelorian program. The National Museum of the Great Lakes reveals the varied and fascinating history of our treasured Great Lakes, which make up 84% of all of the freshwater in North America. Guests can join these sailings to explore the history of the world’s greatest natural resource—from canoes and schooners to early steamers and freighters—some of which ply the mighty Maumee River right next to the Museum.”

Ocean Voyager and Ocean Navigator hold only 202 guests, delivering immersive Lakes & Oceans experiences in North America sailing the Great Lakes, Canada and New England. American Queen Voyages Great Lakes voyages of 11- to 16-days call on North America’s historic five Great Lakes and the storied St. Lawrence River. Port highlights include exploring the Victorian-era charm of Mackinac Island, historic Soo Locks, breathtaking Manitoulin Island, the largest freshwater island in the world, the world-famous Horseshoe Falls of Niagara Falls, the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. All cruises include a pre-cruise hotel night and in Chicago offer an optional of the iconic architecture tour from the water. In addition, guests sailing on the fall Great Lakes itineraries will enjoy overnight excursions in several city ports for the first-time including Toronto, Quebec City and Mackinac Island on American Queen Voyages.

Individuals can still purchase Luck of the Lakes Raffle tickets for a chance to win an 11-day American Queen Voyages cruise and to support the National Museum of the Great Lakes. For more information on the raffle and to purchase a ticket visit NMGL.org.

Fort Lauderdale, FL – August 25, 2022 – American Queen Voyages™,  part of Hornblower® Group, announced details for their 2023 Kentucky Derby Cruise, a highlight of the Ohio River season. Aboard the newest paddlewheeler in the riverboat fleet, American Countess, the nine-day voyage will begin with a pre-cruise hotel at Louisville’s fabled Brown Hotel on Monday, May 1.  Itinerary highlights include competing in the annual Great American Steamboat Race while onboard, lectures by horse racing historians and a new celebration of Kentucky cuisine with Culinary Ambassador Regina Charboneau. A limited number of escorted VIP 2023 Kentucky Derby ticket packages are available for additional purchase.

“The Kentucky Derby Cruise is one of my favorite sailings as it captures the magical energy of Louisville during race week,” explains John Waggoner, founder and chairman of American Queen Voyages. “Last year’s special cruise conflicted with my obligations at the launch of our new Alaska expedition ship Ocean Victory but  I look forward for 2023, cheering on the American Countess in the Great American Steamboat Race and celebrating all the festivities.”

American Queen Voyages’ newest paddlewheeler, the 245-guest American Countess, will sail the Ohio River from Louisville to Cincinnati with stops in Madison, Brandenburg, and Augusta. The first shipboard highlight of the itinerary will be the Great American Steamboat Race in downtown Louisville as the American Countess joins the Belle of Louisville and Belle of Cincinnati on Wednesday, May 3. Guests sailing during the Derby Cruise can sip Kentucky bourbon from the ship’s decks as thousands of people line the riverbanks to watch the race that starts and ends at the Clark Memorial Bridge in Louisville.  The Great Steamboat Race is just one of the events in the Kentucky Derby Festival with other events including firework displays, parades, running races, a hot air balloon event, fashion shows, bed races and concerts.

Often called “the most exciting two minutes in sports,” the Kentucky Derby race itself, held annually on the first Saturday of May since 1875, will be on May 6, 2023,. The Derby is the longest continually held sporting event in America and is one of the most prestigious horse races in the world. Guests on the American Queen Voyages cruise will be able to purchase an escorted VIP race package that includes deluxe transfers, fast pass access to the Churchill Downs racecourse, premium seating, plus lounge, food and open bar. At the races, guests will witness the sights, sounds, colors and tradition of the Derby while trying a mint julep, the quintessential bourbon-based cocktail of the annual race.

New for the 2023 Kentucky Derby Cruise, Culinary Ambassador Regina Charboneau will join onboard to take part in a culinary celebration of the Ohio River as she conducts cooking demonstrations of regional culinary favorites along the Ohio River. Guests can look forward to enjoying the Louisville Hot Brown, Cincinnati Skyline Chili and Pittsburgh pierogies. Food pairings with Kentucky bourbon and a special dinner featuring Chef Regina’s favorite dishes will be a highlight.

“Much of my travels in 2022 have focused on the Ohio River region and the 2023 Kentucky Derby Cruise is the pinnacle of voyages to showcase and share all I have discovered about the region,” shares Culinary Ambassador Regina Charboneau. “This sailing promises to feature bountiful cuisine,  plenty of storytelling  and refreshing mint juleps along the way.”

AMERICAN QUEEN® ARRIVES IN PITTSBURGH; ANNOUNCES EXTENDED JOURNEYS 23-DAY GRAND OHIO & UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVERS SAILING

Pittsburgh, PA – Aug. 8, 2022 American Queen Voyages, part of the Hornblower® Group, announced a new itinerary for 2023, which is the most comprehensive in the company’s ten year history. On July 24, 2023, the American Countess® Grand Ohio & Upper Mississippi Rivers sailing will embark on a 23-day journey for Pittsburgh from Minneapolis (Red Wing), allowing guests to explore the 1772-mile route of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers together like never before. This sailing will be available in reverse embarking from Pittsburgh on Aug. 14, 2023. The 2023 Grand Ohio & Upper Mississippi Rivers sailing will cover more miles, call on more port cities and offer the most unlimited guided tours of any itineraries in American Queen Voyages 10-year history.

To celebrate this historic sailing announcement and today’s arrival of flagship American Queen in downtown Pittsburgh, the cruise line partnered with local student-athletes, including Men’s Basketball Guard William Jeffress, to welcome the boat and raise awareness about jobs on the world’s largest paddlewheeler.

“Guests have made the 16-day Mighty Mississippi voyage between Minneapolis (Red Wing) and New Orleans one of our most popular itineraries, and we are pleased to reveal an even more immersive itinerary sailing to Pittsburgh that now incorporates the Mississippi and Ohio rivers,” said Isis Ruiz, chief commercial officer of American Queen Voyages. “Pittsburgh has such a rich riverboat and sports history, so announcing the Grand Ohio & Upper Mississippi Rivers with the city’s talented student-athletes and American Queen in the shadow of Acrisure Stadium (formerly Heinz Field) was a perfect fit.”

Basketball Guard William Jeffress and Others Visit American Queen® in Pittsburgh

While docked at Pittsburgh’s North Shore Riverfront Park,  Football Offensive Lineman Carter Warren and  Defensive Lineman Deslin Alexandre, Men’s Basketball Guard William Jeffress, Women’s Basketball Guard Lauren Wasylson, and Women’s Tennis Player Alexandra Jaksec headlined an NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) campaign raising awareness of American Queen Voyages’ Pittsburgh sailings along with hospitality and marine operations jobs on the river.  The student-athletes created content and met with many of the crew to learn about onboard occupations including captain, housekeeper, deckhand, entertainer and purser. Available shoreside and shipboard positions are listed at www.aqvoyages.com/careers/.

“This has been a memorable day for the American Queen crew, who shared their contributions to the U.S. river cruising industry, and we wish to thank all the student-athletes who attended our event for spending time onboard,” said Christina Hobbs, vice president, human resources of American Queen Voyages. “Utilizing this NIL partnership has been a unique way to recruit ourselves, while also showcasing our incredible onboard team. I know these talented student-athletes gained some new fans for the upcoming season.”

The 417-guest American Queen is currently sailing nine-day Ohio River voyages between Louisville and Pittsburgh with ports of call including Madison, Cincinnati, Maysville, Point Pleasant and Marietta. Guests embarking in Pittsburgh today enjoyed a pre-cruise hotel night downtown and explored the city. American Queen Voyages newest riverboat, the 245-guest American Countess, visited Pittsburgh earlier this year and will return September 6, 2022.

“It’s great to have American Queen Voyages not only come to the city of Pittsburgh, but to also team with local student-athletes in a very unique NIL partnership,” says Sammy Spina, VMG Sports Representation. “NIL has been a great tool for many student-athletes across the country. This is another creative way to make an impact utilizing Name, Image, and Likeness to educate others about employment opportunities.”

The Minneapolis (Red Wing) to Pittsburgh voyage takes guests through the most scenic spots on the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. Passing through 10 states and 1772 miles, this sailing on American Countess offers a one-of-a-kind exploration of North America. The journey begins in Red Wing, Minnesota, with an itinerary that includes: La Crosse, WI; Dubuque, IA; Bettendorf, IA; Burlington, IA; Hannibal, MO; St. Louis, MO; Kimmswick, MO; Cape Girardeau, MO; Paducah, KY; Henderson, KY; Owensboro, KY; Brandenburg, KY; Louisville, KY; Madison, IN; Cincinnati, OH; Maysville, KY; Point Pleasant, WV; Marietta, OH; and Pittsburgh, PA.

AMERICAN QUEEN VOYAGES™ CELEBRATES INAUGURAL EXPEDITION SEASON WITH OCEAN VICTORY™

VANCOUVER, B.C., May 9, 2022 American Queen Voyages, part of the Hornblower® Group, is debuting the cruise line’s first-ever Expedition experience with the inaugural sailing of Ocean Victory, which departed Vancouver, B.C. May, 7, 2022. Ocean Victory marks the arrival of the seventh vessel to the American Queen Voyages fleet, which also includes Rivers, Lakes & Oceans experiences. The new 186-guest vessel, created for intimate access with an innovative X-Bow design, will sail between Vancouver, B.C., and Sitka, Alaska, on 12- and 13-day cruises May through September. Guests can expect up-close encounter travel experiences in The Last Frontier, working closely with the seasoned expedition and award-winning American Queen Voyages shore excursions teams, in addition to naturalists guiding hands-on learning opportunities, and more.

“Alaska is a unique destination that to even begin to understand its vastness demands immersion with an expedition experience,” said Shawn Bierdz, chief operating officer, American Queen Voyages. “Ocean Victory will deliver guests an intimate sailing experience that really allows them to become captivated by the destination’s many natural wonders. We’re thrilled to have welcomed our first guests onboard as we embark on our journey to Alaska’s Inside Passage.”

Created for intimate access with an innovative X-Bow design, the vessel sails the less-traveled regions of Alaska’s Inside Passage where like-minded explorers will deploy kayaks and Zodiacs with expedition leaders, view wildlife from sliding observation platforms, witness marine research by California Polytechnic State University students in real-time and have engaging discussions with native Alaska leaders.

“As we celebrate the debut of Ocean Victory, I am inspired by our growth from a one paddlewheel cruise line, the American Queen, to a fleet of vessels this very day sailing Mississippi, Kentucky, Washington, Prince Edward Island and Quebec,” shared John Waggoner, founder and chairman of American Queen Voyages. “Today we call on over 125 ports with seven vessels, employing over 670 teammates – far exceeding even the dreams of this boy of just one boat.”

As part of the American Queen Voyages expedition experience, the line has partnered with Dr. Michelle Fournet, director of the Sound Science Research Collective, for the inaugural Alaska expedition season of Ocean Victory.  The acclaimed acoustic ecologist is a leading expert in the communication of North Pacific humpback whales, and was profiled along with her Sound Science Research Collective team in the acclaimed documentary “Fathom.”

Fournet and the Sound Science Research Collective will collaborate with the American Queen Voyages expedition team as the ship becomes an extension of their research lab. Hydrophones will be used onboard Zodiacs to listen to the voices of Alaska’s whales in real-time. Guests will also learn about and participate in whale tracking through fluke identification by uploading their own photos from the vessel to a scientific database following their seasonal movements.

In port, inclusive shore excursions with knowledgeable experts and expedition guides provide meaningful opportunities to uncover the rich history, unique wildlife and fascinating cultures of each destination. Equipped with a fleet of Zodiacs and  kayaks, the itineraries will provide guests with in-depth explorations of Alaska’s natural, historic and cultural treasures.

The Ocean Victory inaugural Alaska season program highlights include:

Anan Creek Bear and Wildlife Observatory: Guests venture into the Alaskan wilderness for a once-in-a-lifetime look at the forest’s wildlife in their natural habitat. They will travel by jet boat from Wrangell through the Eastern Passage to the Anan trailhead. Here, Anan Creek provides the perfect landscape for an observatory, as it is one of the largest salmon runs in Southeast Alaska. This makes it a prime location for the local bear population to feed, as well as bald eagles and harbor seals. At the Anan Bear and Wildlife Observatory, guests will experience up-close views of these majestic creatures.

Five Finger Lighthouse: The historic Five Finger Lighthouse is located at the confluence of Stephen’s Passage and Frederick Sound in Southeast Alaska. The island on which it sits and the surrounding waters are a home to nesting seabirds, foraging songbirds, bald eagles, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters, harbor porpoise, transient killer whales and large numbers of humpback whales.

Kake Tlingit Village: Experiencing the traditional culture of Kake, guests will be warmly welcomed by the Tlingit residents and encouraged to participate in their long-standing traditions. Just a short walk from the dock is the community hall, where a carving or weaving demonstration will take place. Then, guests can step onto the dancefloor where locals will perform traditional songs and dances. Finally they will see the world’s largest one-tree totem pole.

Petersburg: In Petersburg, the Ocean Victory docks right beside Alaska’s largest home-based halibut fleet, which call this shallow, protected harbor home. These abundant waters, and an endless supply of ice from nearby LeConte Glacier, led Norwegian fisherman Peter Buschmann to build the region’s first cannery and invite his fishing countrymen to join him –  hence the town’s name and its strong Norwegian culture. Large cruise ships cannot come into Petersburg, so guests will be among a privileged few to dock in this charming, authentic Alaskan village.

Waterfall Coast: Guests will challenge themselves to keep track of the number of waterfalls encountered along Baranof Island’s beautiful eastern coast, the little known “waterfall coast.” Some can be seen from any of Ocean Victory’s observation perspectives, or right at water level by kayak or Zodiac. This almost hidden shoreline is perfect for discovery with seals, deer, and tidepools ready to reveal secret treasures.

The brand new expedition ship Ocean Victory will sail between Vancouver, B.C. and Sitka, Alaska on 12- and 13-day journeys including a pre-cruise hotel stay in Vancouver, B.C. or Sitka, and calling on: Canadian Inside Passage; Fiordland (Kynoch Inlet); Ketchikan; Misty Fjords National Monument; Wrangell/Stikine River Wilderness; Waterfall Coast/Baranof Wilderness; Petersburg/Le Conte Glacier; Tracy Arm/Endicott Glacier; Kake/Frederick Sound/Five Finger; and Sitka, Alaska. Sailings are available May through September 2022.

AMERICAN QUEEN VOYAGES™ AMERICAN COUNTESS® TO HOST 2023 KENTUCKY DERBY LOUISVILLE TO CINCINNATI CRUISE

These brand-new itineraries on the 186-guest vessel will explore the region with 15-, eight-, and nine-day voyage options beginning Oct. 3, 2022. As an added bonus, and for the first time in the cruise line’s history, American Queen Voyages is offering Free Air from select gateways for guests booking the entire voyage by Aug. 31, 2022.

“Guests have given Ocean Victory rave reviews on her inaugural Alaska season, and our Pacific Coast sailing provides a final opportunity to experience this unique vessel in 2022 before she returns to North America again next year,” said Isis Ruiz, chief commercial officer, American Queen Voyages. “This itinerary exploring the Western coastlines of Mexico and Costa Rica will provide spectacular vistas and a variety of experiences guests have come to cherish from American Queen Voyages, which combines science, history, wildlife and adventure.”

Travelers will walk in the footsteps of indigenous people who advanced civilization itself, with destinations such as Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Huatulco, Puerto Chiapas, and Playas del Coco. Cruising the Pacific, guests can spot marine life from the sliding observation platforms, view the rugged coastline from the comforts of the eighth-deck Observation Lounge and dine on regionally-inspired cuisine.

Included guided tours led by local experts and historians are available in each port, and the following premium tours have been developed by the award-winning American Queen Voyages shore excursions team:

  • Turtles and Iguanas: Participants will enjoy a new perspective of the native wildlife of Manzanillo through the Turtles and Iguanas tour. The tour begins at the Cuyutlan Turtle Sanctuary, then takes guests on a panga boat ride through the Palo Verde lagoon. After a day of wildlife exploration, travelers venture to a local plantation for refreshing coconut water.

  • Whale Shark Encounter: Expedition takes on a new form in La Paz with the Whale Shark Encounter. Those looking for an adventure can go snorkeling in the pristine waters of La Paz Bay, coming up close to extraordinary wildlife, including the largest shark in the world, the whale shark.

  • Salsa and Margaritas: Learning from the world-famous dancing chefs, guests will go on a culinary adventure making delicious and authentic Mexican salsa. The dancing chefs will instruct visitors on how to make Fiery Red Salsa, Tangy Green Salsa, Oaxacan Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, Tropical Salsa, and Rompope dessert.

  • Deep Sea Fishing: In Huatulco, marine life is abundant and offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to go deep sea fishing. Guests can grab a fishing pole and hop onboard a 30-foot yacht that will take them to the middle of  picturesque beaches running 36 miles long. Once there, marlin, swordfish, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado, and mahi-mahi, among other marine life, swim around the vessel.

  • Zip Lining in Playas del Coco: Adventure-seekers will get geared up for the ride of a lifetime through the rainforest of Playas del Coco. As guests swing through the trees, brush, and canopies, they get mesmerizing views of one of the oldest beach communities in Costa Rica’s Guanacaste Province.
