National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel

On April 4, 1968, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated on the second balcony in front of room 304 at the Lorraine Motel. This was just one day after delivering his prophetic “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech at the Mason Temple Church of God in Christ. Today, the motel is a museum devoted to the legacy of Dr. King, and the thousands of people who were part of the American Civil Rights Movement – offering exhibits, interactive displays, and artifacts from the era.
